Current Projects:

  • Field Portable Operation - The recent W&DARS club camp (29th July to 7th August 2005), has provided a wonderful opportunity to experiment with my field portable kit.  We put up my 30m (100ft) portable Clark Mast (ex-military).

Building a TenTec 10m to 2m Transverter - My personal project for 2005/2006 is building this transverter kit.  I have completed Phase 1, and tested the oscillator, which gives a nice stable 116Mhz signal.  Watch this space.

  • Building a PicATUne - This is a W&DARS project.  Although I am convinced it is a bit beyond me, I have received an enormous amount of encouragement ("arm twisting") from the club members.  Auto ATU's seem to be the way to go!
  • Packet Station - I am playing with data modes, in particular APRS and Packet.  I am also interested in establishing an Echolink node and have bought a Ultimate Linking Interface (ULI) following a talk at W&DARS by Terry (G4CDY).

Interests:

  • Active from my home QTH on all bands from 80m to 70cm
  • Active while mobile on all bands from 40m to 70cm
  • Experimenting with HF DXing, Data modes, Packet and APRS

Articles

  • Modelling VHF - I have always wondered how you predict radio coverage.  Take a look at what I discovered about VHF propagation when I modeled an actual QSO completed on 2m.
