Yaesu FT-847 Transceiver

This is my secondary base station transceiver.  It covers all the HF bands from 160m to 6m, and VHF bands 4m, 2m & UHF band 70cm.

I use it mainly for VHF & UHF, both for voice and data, and as a backup to my Icom 756 pro II for HF.

Antennas: For 6m, 2m and 70cm on FM, it is connected to a vertically polarised Tri-Band Co-Linear.  I have installed a rotator in the attic space and currently have two beams, a 2m 4element Quad, and a 70cm 7element ZLspecial for use on SSB.

Special Note: It has a capability of 4m, but many users report that the transmit output is low and efficiency is lamentable, and the receiver is none too sensitive either.  I have a 4m Halo Loop which I will be mounting in the loft space, this will further reduce efficiency but will give me a few kilo-hertz of usable bandwidth on this band.  I bought an old Pye low band VHF linear.  It has been tuned to give a clean 65 watt output from 15 watts input on the 4m band.  However, I have yet to try it!

Cons:  Everyone who owns this transceiver complains about the noisy fan, why should I be any different.
